He was predeceased by: his parents, Claybourne Smith and Ruth Smith (Carnine); his son William James (Jimmy); his sister Arlene Benson; and his wife Mildred Davis.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Jelinek (Terry) of Munden and Steven Smith (Ann) of Lexington, NC; his grandchildren, Holly Giammanco (Joe) of Kansas City, MO, Tegan Wagner (Mark) of Huntersville, NC and Jadd Smith of Huntersville, NC; his great grandchild Lila Wagner; and his sister-in-law Rosa Geske of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
