He was predeceased by : his parents, Rollie Hoopes and Flossie Hoopes (Helmbold); his wife Pauline Frances Gerberding; and his brothers, Dwight and Glenn.

He is survived by : his children, Debbie Hilst (Kent) and Roger Hoopes (Katrina); his grandchild Keaton Hilst (Brooke); his great grandchildren, Bella and Annie; his grandchild Kinsley Riggs (Cody); his great grandchildren, Kalloway and Kaffrey; and his grandchild Kalen Hilst (Meg). He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
