He is survived by : his wife Patricia Potter; his children, Celia Lutz (Lou) of Wichita, Rodney Dickens (Marsha) of Sedan, Lisa Willhite (Gordon) of Sedan, Linda Walker (Bill) of Coffeyville, Brad Dickens (Mary Pat) of Liberty, Mark Potter (Nanette) of Cheney and Brian Potter (Sara) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Sarah Bustamante, Andy Lutz, Amy Dickens Lampson, Brett Dickens, Lucas Willhite, Dayna Draper, Ashley Dougan, Austin Walker, Carly Nelson, Kelsey McNickle, Makena Dickens, Zechariah Potter, Chelsey Tiemeyer, Max and Viktor Potter.

The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church, the Blue Devil Foundation c/o Sedan High School or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

“Richard, today is Joe's birthday so I thought it appropriate to mention how much we enjoyed camping with you and Patty over the years that we were into RV'ing. I especially remember hanging a "Just Married " sign on the back of your camper as you were leaving Cloud 9 RV Resort. Those memories made our life more enjoyable as we moved on through our life.
