He was predeceased by : his parents, Leonard Schmelzle and Thelma Meyer Schmelzle; and his sister Jane Schmelzle. He is survived by : his wife Mary Jane Schmelzle; his children, Luke Schmelzle (Courtney) of Seneca and Mika Schmelzle of Topeka; and his siblings, Rebecca "Becky" Schmelzle, Diane Bach of Richfield, Minnesota and Dennis Schmelzle of Seneca.

A rosary was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 at 7:00 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home (212 S 4th St, Seneca, KS 66538). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 10th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Oneida Methodist Church.
