He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold A. Mertz and Edna L. Mertz (Hutchinson); and his siblings, Betty J. Campbell and Harold D. Mertz. He is survived by: his wife Carole Susan Weigel; his daughters, Susan King (John) of Belton and Sara Farrar (Gregg) of Overland Park, Kansas; his grandchildren, Maggie, Mitchell, Mallory, Myles, Maverick and Mary Kate; and his nieces and nephews, Joe Mertz, Tom Mertz, Bob Mertz, Jon Mertz, Jane Garcia, Rebecca Price and Rhonda Miller.
