He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Hartzell and Emily Hartzell (Drake); his wife Donna JoAnn Porter; his stepfather Glen "Pops" Oliver; and his brothers, Carl Hartzell and Leonard Hartzell.
He is survived by: his children, Allen Hartzell (Catherine) of Phoenix, AZ, Susan Hartzell of Topeka, KS and Dan Hartzell (Andrea) of Topeka, KS; his grandchildren, Grace (Dakota), Emily (Lyndsey), Caitlon and Zachary; his great grandchildren, Hudson and Ari; and his sister Martha Bonham. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Rex's name to Midland Hospice Care or the American Cancer Society.
