Curtis Sommers Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Curtis Sommers of Towanda, Kansas, who passed away on May 8, 2022, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his former wife Sandra Faye Sturdevant; his brother Keith; and his sister-in-law Carlene. He is survived by: his stepsons, Douglas Wayne (Shannon) of Chanute, KS and Daniel Wadell (Jennifer) of Burleson, TX; his wife Ruthie; his daughter Jamie (Chris Cunningham) of Piedmont, OK; his brother Darell; his sister-in-law Vicki of Potwin, KS; and his grandchildren, Nate Sommers, Logan Sommers, Isaiah Sommers, Rebekah Sommers, Gavin Carson, Talyn Cunningham and Taegen Cunningham. He is also survived by many cousins, many nephews and one niece.
Curt's family will be forever thankful to the family in St. Louis who chose to donate the organs of their son, along with the lung transplant team at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, so that Curt could continue living another 16 years. In honor of the gift of life Curt received, memorials are suggested to The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital for the benefit of the Lung Transplant Patient Care Fund, 1001 Highlands Plaza Drive West, Suite 140, St. Louis, MO 63110-1337.
