He was predeceased by: his parents, John Terrance and Alice Speaks (Blanton); his wife Barbara Jean Thomas; his son James Speaks; his siblings, Mike Speaks, Addie Young, Virginia Clary, Alma Lee Reder and Johnny Speaks; and his son-in-law Gary Blanton. He is also survived by Twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Doniphan County Foundation Fund.
