He was predeceased by : his parents, Bernhard Schmidt and Lena Schmidt (Wedel); his wife Ardyce Ann Schmidt; his son Lyle; and his siblings, Albert, Dan, Harry, Carl, Elmer Schmidt and Verna Harms.

He is survived by : his niece Leanna Schmidt Carlson; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Virgil and Kyle; his sons, Virgil Schmidt (Kylee) of Ulysses, KS. and Kyle Schmidt (Julie) of Pasco, WA.; his sisters-in-law, Alice Schmidt and Freda Schmidt; and his grandchildren, Samantha Schmidt, Seth Schmidt and Brevin Schmidt.

A memorial has been established for New Beginnings Church in the care of Robson Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
