He was predeceased by: his parents, William Carls Jr. and Vera Carls (Moffett); his sons, Gene Carls (Mindy) and Larry Carls (Elaine Shumaker); and his brother Dean Carls (Bonnie).
He is survived by: his wife Ruby Hoeder; and his daughters, Vera Brinkman (Dennis), Jana Fuhrmann (Rick), Judy Boltman (David) and Sheri Metzger. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
