He was predeceased by : his parents, Kevlin Coates and Jessie Coates (Hampton); and his grandson Bryce Reed. He is survived by : his wife Mary Barbara Bogart; his children, Kennan Coates (Katie), Brad Efurd, Blaine and Stacey Schmidt; his grandchildren, Lance Bean, Taylor Ireton, Garrett Schmidt and Kevlynn Coates; and his siblings, Robert Coates of New Orleans, LA, Cecil Coates of Albany, LA, Kay Cagle (Jerry) of Hot Springs, AR and Ronald Coates (Judy). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas Honor Flights – Wamego High School, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
