He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Payne and Alice Payne (Heard); and his sister Kathy Payne-Putter. He is survived by : his wife Tena Payne; and his pet Blackjack. He is also survived by 3 nieces, 4 nephews, 3 great-nieces, 1 uncle, 3 cousins.

A memorial fund has been established in his memory with the Wellington Humane Society.
