He was predeceased by: his parents, Alice Kaps and Richard Kaps; his stepmother Jerry Kaps; his sister Mary Smith; and his niece Dawn Stranko.

He is survived by: his siblings, Joe Kaps of Wichita, Anne Kaps (Mike) of Kansas City, MO., Linda Newcomer (Brett) of Lake Forest, CA., Kathy McDannald (Steve) of Valley Center and Sharon Scroggins (Bobby) of Colwich; his stepbrother Robert Fife of Wichita; and his nieces and nephews, Rachael (Adam), Brad, Allison, Leslie, Connie (Eric), Chris (Kay), Shawn (Ashlee), Mitch, Jason, Steve Jr. (Stacy), Brian (Shannon), Garret (Jessica), Rochelle (Gabe), Corey (Kelly) and Dallas.
