He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward E. Horinek and Waunetta G. Schenewerk (Edgett); his significant other Christie Ransom; his daughter Shelly M. Surbaugh; and his brother Donald Horinek.
He is survived by: his children, Cheri Koehn (Scott), Heather Reeves (Kristopher), John Jr. Ireland (Christine), James Ransom, Jim Maske and Christine Huntoon (Eddie); his son-in-law Glen Surbaugh; and his sisters, Connie Lorance and Lonnie Hanson (Johnnie). He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren.
