E Elaine Ratcliff wrote a sympathy message

“Walter was a unique person. I had the pleasure of knowing him from the Wichita Public School. Since my dad traveled during the week, my mom did all chores. This is what my sister and I learned. As I was moving a filling cabinet in my office, a hand gripped my shoulder. It was Walter, saying that's my job. Never ever have I ever respected a person who was there to help everyone. Once he retired, no one could measure up to the quality of work he produced nor were his replacements seen or heard.”
