She was predeceased by: her parents, William Sherman and Mary Elizabeth Little (Blyue); her husband Gilbert Charles Johnson; her son Norris Johnson; her nephew Ray Price; and her sisters, Flora Belle Scott, Clara Stultz, Alta Johnson and Alma Little.

She is survived by: her grandchildren, Chris Johnson of Arkansas City and Cindy Johnson of Wichita; her great grandchildren, Chance Johnson of Arkansas City, Haley Johnson and Paul Mendez of Arkansas City; her great great grandchildren, Hendrix Johnson of Arkansas City and Pierre Mendez of Arkansas City; her daughter-in-law Denise Johnson of Winfield; and her stepgrandsons, Joel Wheeler of Wichita and Daniel Wheeler (Paige) of Edmond, OK. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in Bessie's name for the Wichita Children's Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
