He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Smith; his parents, Bertram L. Smith and Sylvia Rapier Smith; his great grandchild Maeve Peebles; and his siblings, Rapier Smith, Tom Smith, Willie Smith and Mary Wilson.
He is survived by: his children, Bertram "Lang" Smith III (Sherry) and Lisa Smith Thompson (Mark Mobley) of Bardstown; his grandchildren, Natalie Smith Spalding, Lance Smith (Jill Edelen), Nicholas Smith (Margaret), Jeffrey Thompson (Katie) and Samie Thompson Peebles (Scotty); his great grandchildren, Rawlings Ricketts, Liza Ann Spalding, Palmer Ruth Smith, Romy Peebles and Crittenden Lancaster Smith; and his siblings, Francis Xavier Smith (Lucy) of Bardstown, Carl Patrick Smith (Celie) of Bardstown and Ginny Smith Horlander (Dave) of Bardstown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
