Mary Rita Cecil Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Rita Cecil of Bardstown, Kentucky, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 11, 2026 at the age of 99. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Marvin Roby and Mary Louise Mackin Roby; her husband Louis J. "Bubbie" Cecil; her brothers, Charles H. Roby and Jim Pat Roby; and her children-in-law, Dennis Stodghill and Gail Brandt Cecil.
She is survived by: her children, Dr. James Donald Cecil (Dian) of Leitchfield, Joseph Edward "Eddie" Cecil (Phyllis) of Bardstown, Joyce Marie Stodghill of Monroe, GA., Linda Ann Boice (Michael) of LaGrange, Mary Jean Riggs (Jimmy) of Bardstown, Anita Cecil (Jeff) of Cox's Creek and Wanda Veech (Mike) of Bardstown; her siblings, Joseph Marvin Roby of Harrodsburg, Tony Roby (Sharon) of Bardstown and Margaret Jane "Missy" Hicks of Bardstown; and her sister-in-law Charlotte Roby. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, May 13th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home and Cremation Services (1475 New Shepherdsville Rd, Bardstown, KY 40004). A prayer was held on Tuesday, May 12th 2026 at 5:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, May 13th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Kosair Children's Hospital.
