He was predeceased by: his parents, George Kappell and Dorothy Helen Stopher Kappell; his siblings, Bettie Ratliff, Brenda Kay, Jackie and Charlie Kappell; and his stepdaughter Kelly Renee Bowman.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Susan Kappell; his children, Wayne E. "Eddie" Kappell, Jr. (Helen) of Cox's Creek, Sandra Renee Smith (Gary) of Elizabethtown, Deborah Lynn Mattingly (Charlie) of Cox's Creek and Angela Gayle Daniels (Doug) of Boston; his stepchildren, Robert Lee Bowman (Sandy) of Culvertown and Ashley Mudd (Mark) of Bardstown; and his siblings, Helen Louise Embry of Bardstown, Linda Price of Bardstown, Martha Coyle (Billy) of Nelsonville, Peggy Ferguson (Isaac) of Bardstown, Sue Newton (Billy) of Boston, Janet Dones of Boston, Lillian Hutchins (Michael) of New Haven and Rickie Kappell (Ann) of Boston. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
