He was predeceased by: his parents, Lazarus Thomas and Mervin Johnson Thomas; his siblings, Louise Francis, Joe Thomas, Lee Thomas, Homer Thomas and Bennie Thomas; and his son Jeff Thomas.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Mays Thomas; his children, Stacy Thomas and Karen Ann Chinn (John); his grandchildren, Jonica Lellie (Josh), Lydia Thomas and Draven Hill; and his great grandchildren, J. D. Lellie and Anna Rose Lellie.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Ohio County Hospice.
