He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Edwards Hays; his parents, Simon Hays and Ada Rice Hays; and his brother Robert Hays. He is survived by: his children, Robert Hays, Sheila Newman and Mary Ellen Belcher; his grandchildren, Felicia, Amber and Allison; and his sisters, Mary Lea Newcomb and Thelma Allen. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 22nd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lakes Funeral Home and Cremation Services (203 N Dogwood Dr, Berea, KY 40403). A memorial service was held on Friday, May 22nd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location.
