He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Hayes and Eva Jane Duvall Hayes; his wife Betty Jo White Hayes; his sons, Leon and Leonard Hayes; his grandson Jacob Skaggs; his son-in-law Dale Basham; and his siblings, Stoy, Charlie, Carl, Herman, Edna, Gladys, Nancy Jane and Anna Pearl.
He is survived by: his daughters, Bonita Miller (Kenneth), Vickie Basham, Valeria Hayes (Jody Bingham) and Melinda O'Donnell (Patrick); his daughter-in-law Sharon Hayes; his grandchildren, Dedra Whittington, Chad Hayes (Marisa), Jason Hayes (Laura Beth), Ryan Hayes, Quentin Miller (Alyssa), Clayton Basham (Morgan), Jerrad Skaggs (Stephanie), Caitlyn Kilgore (Derek), Erin O'Donnell (Braxton) and Makenzie O'Donnell (Kaitlyn Grace); his sister-in-law Allene Hayes; and his extended family Church. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 9:00 AM at the Dermitt Funeral Home (306 W Main St, Leitchfield, KY 42754). A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at the Little Clifty United Methodist Church (32 Little Clifty Rd, Big Clifty, KY 42712).
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may make a contribution to the Little Clifty United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or the Claggett United Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
