He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Henry McCarty and Nola Belle Coy McCarty of Ohio County, Kentucky.; and his brother Herbert McCarty, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn McCarty (Ragan); his children, Elisa McCarty and David McCarty (Kim); his stepsons, Jeff Waldrop (Stephanie) and Todd Waldrop (Felicea); his grandchildren, Ashley Murray, Benjamin McCarty, Nickolas McCarty, Alexandra Guzik, Bradley Waldrop, Shane Waldrop, Autumn Waldrop, Rebecca Waldrop and Adam Gallagher; and his siblings, James McCarty (Linda) of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Linda McClellan (Gerald) of Woodruff, Wisconsin.. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
