He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Pennington and Javena Pennington; and his daughter Lisa Pennington. He is survived by: his wife Judy Pennington; his sons, Brian Pennington and Jason Pennington (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Cedric Gumm II (Jennifer), Dayton Gumm (Catherine), Haley Gumm, Sophie Pennington, Landon Pennington and Rachel Brooks; his great grandchildren, Eleina Gumm, Isla Gumm and Isabella Gumm; and his sisters, Zo Harper (James), Beth Harvell (John) and Karen Brown.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
