He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Couch and Edith Couch (Stone) of Lexington, KY.; and his brothers, Will of Lexington, KY. and Ken Couch of Lexington, KY.. He is survived by: his sister Patricia Hager (Bob) of Birmingham; and his children, Kellie Couch Hopper (Bill) of Union Grove, NC., Scott Couch (Dana Riddle) of Hendersonville, TN., Gena Couch Rowe (Mark Brackett), Chris Couch (LaCosta Massey) of Glasgow and Andy Couch (Amy Davis) of Madisonville, KY.. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
In recognition of his lifelong contribution to the Commonwealth, James was appointed Kentucky Colonel, in 1970 personally by Gov. Louie B. Nunn.
