He was predeceased by: his wife Connie Daniels Hays; his parents, William T. Hays and Mary E. Hays; and his grandparents, Jacob McKinley Hays, Lula Hays, Alvis Marion Gammons and Mary Bell Gammons.

He is survived by: his daughter Terri Lynn Hays; and his brothers, Garnett L. Hays (Patricia), David W. Hays and Jim Hays (Sharon).
