He was predeceased by: his parents, Kelly Newton and Dottie Lillian Potter Key. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Mattingly Key; his sons, Gary Key (Jeanne) of Galveston, TX and Scott Key (Jennifer) of Woodlands, TX; his grandchildren, Lauren Key (Drew Butler), Lindsay Key (Brad Croak) and Caitlin Key; and his great grandchildren, Field, Rain Butler, Millie and Milo Croak.
