He was predeceased by: his parents, Shelton Thomas and Elizabeth McIntosh Thomas; and his wife Shirley Evans Thomas. He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia Sanders and Donna Furtell-Cardillo. He is also survived by nine siblings.
