He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Nolman Smith and Eula Pike Smith; his wife Faye Hunt; and his siblings, James Smith, Norman Smith, Wilmer Smith, Calvin Smith, Gordon Smith, Clarence Smith, Dimple Breeden, Ethel Phelps, Orma Smith and Mary Jane Cowan.
He is survived by: his children, Matthew Smith of Lexington and Lewanda Smith Nunn of Campbellsville; his grandchildren, James William Nunn, Jr. and Katherine Rose Nunn; and his sister Fannie Mae Jacobs (Homer). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
