He was predeceased by: his wife Deborah Lee Watts Hamrick; his granddaughter Alyssa King; his siblings, Ralph Hamrick, Harvey Hamrick and Jane Thompson; and his siblings-in-law, Eldon Thompson, Tony Belcher and Janie Hamrick.
He is survived by: his children, Shelli Wilburn (Mike) of Rush, Kentucky, Danielle King of Fayetteville, Christy Maxey of Huntington and John Hamrick Jr. (Teresa) of Ashland, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Kirsten Wilburn, Michaelah Wilburn, Michael Wilburn, Cory Layne, Brittany Layne, Hannah Layne, Joseph Layne, Nicholas King, Amanda Maxey, Chelsie Fraley, Devon Thompson, Jayla Maxey, Taylor Boggs, Tori Brewer and Austin Hamrick; Devon Belcher of Logan. He is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Ne (Veterans Mem Dr, Kentucky 41121).
