He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Yates and Lola Yates; his wife Abrilla "Billie" Yates; his son Michael Yates; his daughter-in-law Debra Yates; and his sisters, Irene (Leonard), Elizabeth, Mazie, Martha and Opal.
He is survived by: his son Dwayne Yates; his grandchildren, Amanda Yates, Joel "Joey" Yates, Jr. (Alicen), Michael Yates and Austyn Yates; his great grandchildren, Zakarie, Breaunna, Kayleb and Emersyn Yates; his caregiver Martha Bowman; and his brother Leroy "Dusty" Yates. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
