He was predeceased by: his parents, Pieter Jacobus and Margriet Vegter Nies; his wife Cornelia A. Nies; his sister Hubertha Nies; and his grandson Joey Nies.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Nies (Karen), Patricia Nies and Michael Nies (Zoe Ann); and his grandchildren, Angela Riley, Todd Nies, Robin Britton, Heather Nies, Beth Hicks and Brian Hicks. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
