She was predeceased by: her parents, Sturl Sumpter and Grace Sumpter; her granddaughter Heather Graham; her siblings, Floyd Sumpter, Lucy Sumpter, Dorothy McHargue and Eugene Sumpter; her siblings' children, Buddy Howard, Robert Sumpter and Joanna Howard; and her sons-in-law, Ed Johnson, Rob Couch and Vernon Rains.
She is survived by: her husband James B. Short; her children, Jenny Johnson, Pat Couch, Debra Rains, James Short (Joy) and Lois Short; and her sister Mary Saylor Farley. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren.
