John Spears Sr. Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Spears Sr. of Danville, Kentucky, who passed away on December 15, 2025 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Y. Spears, Jr. and Willie Mae Stagner Smith (Letcher); his wife Shirley Leathers Spears; and his brother Adelbert Spears. He is survived by: his stepmother Evelyn Hayes; his children, Terry Wesley (Doug) of Danville and John William "Johnny" Spears, Jr. (Jackie) of Danville; his siblings, Eddie Smith (Eileen) of Independence, Eileen Sheperson of Gravel Switch, Cathy Jones of Harrodsburg and Joyce Smith of Harrodsburg; his granddaughters, Sabrina Stevens (Rodney) of Somerset, Emily Paterson (Braden) of Arkansas and Rachel Gilkison (Ty) of Danville; and his great grandchildren, Gavin, Bella Stevens, Callie, Colton, Cooper Paterson, Alanna, Kelsey and Jackson Gilkison. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
