He is survived by: his mother Patricia Ward Oakes; his wife Paulette Barger Oakes; his daughter Clara Ivy-Lee Oakes; his sister Emily Faith Oakes (Brandon); and his niece Evelyn Mae Sizemore. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
