He was predeceased by: his mother Frances Jones; his brother Larry Jones; and his daughter Beverly Cox Whitman. He is survived by: his wife Frances Jenkins Cox; and his children, Natalie Cox, Ernest Cox, Jr. (Liz), Vanessa Cox, Brenda Hawkins (Brian), Holly Hall and Steven. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 23rd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Christian Fellowship Church (6155 KY-38, Evarts, KY 40828). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, September 25th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Resthaven Cemetery (3000 State Hwy 840, Keith, KY 40806).
