He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Whitaker and Mazie Farmer Whitaker; his siblings, Don Whitaker, Russell Whitaker, Shirley Merritt, Iva Dean Russell, Judy Goodin, Bobby Joe Whitaker and Beulah Whitaker; his father-in-law Willie Ping (Nora); his siblings-in-law, Ed Hudson, Ronnie Polston, Raymond Phillips, Glen Mefford, Carnelle Ping, Elmer Brown, Delores Ping, Doris Daulton, Verla Brown and Zena Ping; his nephew Jeff Hudson; his niece Trena Smith; and also Kim Ping Haygood.

He is survived by : his wife Loraine Ping Whitaker of Ferguson; his sons, Curtis Whitaker of Ferguson, Jeff Whitaker of Ferguson and Tony Whitaker of Ferguson; his brother Sam Whitaker of Somerset; his siblings-in-law, Don Ping, Richard Ping, Gerald Ping, Marie Hudson, Thelma Phillips, Linda Mefford and Alberta Miller; his niece Sherry Cash; and his nephew David Russell. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews and other family members.
