He was predeceased by : his parents, Virgil Smither and Beatrice Jean Phillips Smither; and his brothers, Wayne Smither, Paul Smither and Charlie Smither.

He is survived by : his wife Andrea Smither; his children, Melissia Willard (Dewey), Michele Smither Cantrell, Carl Ray Smither, Jr. (Julie) and Evan Cane Smither; his grandchildren, Brandon, Randi, James, Tristen and Kevin; and his siblings, David Smither, Anna Smither Mason and Bobby Smither. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
