He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert "Jack" Smith and Clara Belle Smith; his siblings, Van Smith (Wilma) and James "Book" Smith; and his stepdaughter Shelia Hunt.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Smith; his brother Roy Smith (Gwen); his stepchildren, Rodney Hunt and Kecia Hunt; his grandsons, Gary and Terry Metcalf (Kayla); his great grandchildren, Carter, Ryleigh, Charlie, Jordyn, Gary "Bubba" III, Teagan and Payton; his nieces, Teresa Quarker Smith and Callie Quarker Smith; his great-nephews, Carter Van Smith and William "Luke" Smith; and his sister-in-law Renee Smith.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. John AME Church.
