He was predeceased by : his parents, Herbert "Pete" Sutton and Fannie Keeling Sutton; his siblings, Jay, Howard, Pauline Fenwick and Geneva Thomas; and his nephew Raymond "Pee Wee" Nally.

He is survived by : his wife Jacqueline Reid Thompson Sutton; and his sons, Vernon Reid Sutton of Houston and Jonathan Raybourne Sutton of Huntington.
