He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Bryant Simpson and Carrie Beatrice Simpson (Brown); his former wife Billie Faye Simpson (Templeton); and his siblings, Lasco Simpson, Raymond Simpson, Bill Simpson, Junior Simpson, Elizabeth Braswell, Betty Jean Pearson and Eudean Pearson.
He is survived by: his wife Edie Simpson; his daughter Teresa Scotti (David) of Pittsburgh, PA; his stepdaughter Elisha Wiggins (Brian) of Central City, KY; his grandchildren, Matthew Scotti, Molly Scotti, Lillie Wiggins and Charles Wiggins; and his sisters, Lucille McCormick of Westmoreland, TN and Sue Williamson of Gallatin, TN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
