He was predeceased by: his parents, James Potter and Mae Boyd Potter; and his son James Jeffery Potter. He is survived by: his spouse Pearlie Jackson Potter; his daughters, Becky Smith (Larry) and Tonya Pratt (Jimmy) of Garrett, KY; his siblings, John Wayne Potter (Kim) of Langley, KY, Gloria Hall (Freddy) of McDowell, KY, Anita Turner (Shiron) of Berlin Heights, OH and Alice Potter of Wheelwright, KY; his grandchildren, LaMikka Crowder (Logan), Jordan Pratt (Tyra), Haley Thacker (Robert), Charles Potter and Adalyn Potter; and his great grandchildren, Bailey, Easton Crowder, Taylee and Tessa Pratt.
