He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert "Buddy" and Mary Olga Barton Metcalfe; and his brother Tommy Metcalfe. He is survived by: his daughters, Elizabeth Metcalfe, Emily Metcalfe and Erin Metcalfe; and his siblings, Duncan Metcalfe, Sally Swanson and Mary DeFini.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elizabeth's Village (Georgetown, KY), Mahr Park Arboretum (Madisonville, KY), or the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust (Chicago, IL).
