He was predeceased by: his parents, Melbert Combs and Jean Kinman Combs; his sons, Andy Dale McKinney and David Downing Combs; and his siblings, William E. Combs, Calvin L. Combs and Goldie Jean Combs.

He is survived by: his wife Margie Jean Kinman Combs; his children, Louise Hiles (Billy), Farrah Wheeler (James Anderson), Jeanna Ritch and Ronald Downing (Patty); and his sisters, Jill Sharon (John) and Lois Carol Combs. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
