We are sad to announce that on August 12, 2023, at the age of 84, James Markess Evans of Grayson, Kentucky passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, David "Van" Evans and Eliza Robinson Evans; his wife Ruby Shaffer Evans; his son-in-law Doug Wooten; his siblings, Frankie, Bobby, Pat Evans (Faye), Billy Gene Evans, Eloise Messer (Ernie) and Cloma Jordan; and his brothers-in-law, Freeman Shaffer (Gay), Paul Shaffer, Ronnie Shaffer and Scobie Shaffer.

He is survived by : his daughters, Jami Wooten and Rhea Bretz (Kevin); his grandchildren, Hannah Wooten and Evan Wooten; his sisters, Gretta Adams (Manson), Alma Bowling (Lester) and Edith Jones (James); his siblings-in-law, C. H. Jordan, Laura Ann Evans, Dorothy Evans, Marquetta Shaffer and Aline Shaffer; and his friend Lou Stapleton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, church family, friends.
