He was predeceased by: his parents, William Clarence Bonta and Stella Pauline Wright Bonta; and his siblings, Winfred Bonta, William "Bill" Bonta, Marilyn Simpson and Joyce Simpson.
He is survived by: his wife Connie Whitlow Bonta of Green County; his sons, James (Erin Bonta) and Mark (Lindsey Bonta); his grandchildren, Will Bonta of Green County, Whitley Bonta of Green County, Ty Bonta of Green County, Hayden Bonta of Green County, Waylon Bonta of Green County, Caleb Bonta of Green County, Willow Bonta of Green County and Caroline Bonta of Green County; his sister Suvada Arnett of Green County; and his in-laws, Reta, Steve Pickett, Shelia Pearman, Rodney, Rita Whitlow, Rodger and Bea Whitlow. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
