He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldid Akers and Joy Bailey Akers; and his brother Tommy Akers. He is survived by: his significant other Thelma Shepard Akers; his stepchildren, Jeffery Shepard of Ashland, Kentucky and Tiffany Shepard of Ashland, Kentucky; his siblings, James Akers of Rush, Danny Akers (Jennie) of Wooster, Tony Akers (Kathy) of Greenup, Richard Akers (Charlotte) of South Point, Terry Akers (Lorie) of Rush, Kentucky, Brenda Johns (Tad) of Mt. Vernon and Tonya Clark (Kenny) of Ashland, Kentucky; and his granddaughter Bella Clark.
