He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Ballard and Lottie Mae Sturgill Spears; and his siblings, Sarah Kathryn Pinson, Lola Ellen Clark, Kanova Sue Kingsley, Arthur Lee, Victor Howard and James Russell.

He is survived by: his wife Marilou Burns Spears; his children, Brian Edward Spears (Stacy) of Nicholasville, KY and Teresa Mae Spears Newsome (Mickey) of Grethel, KY; his siblings, Wayne Bertley Spears of Harold, KY, Anna Belle Justus of Stanville, KY, Della Marie Jackson of Clyde, OH, Linda Joyce Salisbury of Harold, KY and Deborah Carol Hunt of Stanville, KY; and his grandchildren, Dustin Ballard, Bailey Russell, Ashton Winner, Hadley Hollingsworth and Hunter Ross. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM at the Hall Funeral Home (331 KY-122, Martin, KY 41649). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at the Spears Cemetery.
