He was predeceased by: his parents, Curtis Shootie Patterson and Elizabeth Jewell Shewmaker; his son Burchell Dewayne Shewmaker, Jr.; and his siblings, Eugene Shewmaker and Vicki Warner.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Snipes Shewmaker; his daughters, Chestina Jensen (Paul) of Harrodsburg, Serena Barkman (Erick) of Harrodsburg and Joy Rector (John) of Harrodsburg; his siblings, James Allen Lewis (Kathy) of Versailles and Leticia Blacketer of Harrodsburg; his grandsons, Cody, Clayton Herring and Blake; his great grandchild Phoenix Sadler; his grandsons, Clay, Kru'z and Westin; his son-in-law John Rector; and his cousins, Ronnie, Red, Larry and Mike. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
