He was predeceased by: his parents, John William Payton and Beulah Tingle Lake; and his brothers, Donald of Joe, J. W. and Allen Douglas Payton. He is survived by: his wife Judy Settles Payton; his sons, Marcus Wayne Payton of Harrodsburg and Garnett Davis Payton (Amanda) of Harrodsburg; his sisters, Marilyn Conley of Bullitt County and Norma Ryan of Harrodsburg; his grandchildren, Haley Baker (Mason), Maranda Yeager (Jacob), Karleigh Payton, Brady Wayne Payton and Sadie Beth Payton; his great grandchildren, Jaxson Baker, Eli Baker, Lynnie Jane Baker, Brinley Yeager, Ryan Yeager and Timber Yeager; and his friend Margaret Edwards (late Sam). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mt. Pleasant Church (446 Mt Pleasant Rd, Harrodsburg, KY 40330). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 4th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
